Spectacular. What are the statistics? And what was (is) the record?

It was 27.84 pounds and 40.25 “ ! I’d say it’s a keeper!!

Caught in Northern part of NH

Is it the weight of the fish that determines the record?

Yes, weight...in the event of a tie in weight it defaults to length. (I believe)

From what I heard a tip up with live bait. 45 minute fight with 12 pound test line...

And all on a #10 hook Dan! What a thrill seeing that go by the hole! At the same time what must be have thought about the beast getting off with the relatively, light tackle?? Awesome job keeping it on the line and landing it!
I have had something huge on my line 2 times in 70 years! Both times, whatever was on the line avoided even letting me catch a glimpse!

A #10 hook??? Wow!!! For the non fisherman out there that hook is smaller than a nickel and maybe even a dime. If this hook size isn't part of the "fish story" then I am truly impressed.

That hook size is what I use on a tip up so I would have to believe it!

Same here except I only use 6lb test leader in Winni. Biggest laker I have taken out of Winni was just over 8 lbs...no comparison to that monster!!

This is a case of, "better make sure you drill a big enough hole". :D

Shiner, 6 feet of water

Wow...so much for the theory that you have to go deep with big bait to catch the big ones...

Shiner, 6 feet of water

And you got this information where? I know it was a Redfin shiner but the depth is pretty much a secret so far...
Friend of mine know the guy who caught it and says he is being tight lipped about certain particulars.

There were 3 men involved in the landing of this giant...not sure if any one of them had a free hand to operate a camera! If there was a video it would have surfaced by now.
