NH gets top billing

The Columbus day weekend is usually the peak of color in the lakes region, and can be past peak in the mountains - but not this year. We went hiking in the Ossipees last weekend (Oct 2), and to say there was 10% color would be stretching it. It looks like we are at least one and maybe two weeks late this year - yet, the the press is surprisingly quiet about it. They know where their ad revenue comes from.

In there, the October 3'rd reports mention that the White Mountain reagion is beginning to show a change. Monadnock Region is at 20%. Great north woods is 25-50%. Dartmouth is showing minimal color. The lakes regoin is "exploding with color".

This year, its too bad Colombus wasn't born a week or two later.

The October 6 NH report just cited says that Gunstock is showing brilliant colors.....is it really? Will be at the lake next week and hope to see at least a little of this "brilliance" during our stay. I guess I'm looking for an "on the ground" report of actual color changes around the big lake and surrounding mountains. I can't trust the NH website for accuracy in reportage! Thanks, anyone?

there is very little color change yet in the Wolfeboro area. I think the turning is 1 -2 weeks behind normal. Either that or :confused: it isn't going to be a brillliant year.

Friday, October 7'th - color is 50% peak in many spots in the lakes region. There was a big traffic jam on 93 around Exit 20, so we went up to Exit 23 on Route 134. A beautiful ride. Color has come on quickly now. Leaves are in the air. Still strangely late, but you can tell that it is not summer any more.
