View Full Version : Flat Earth Test?

I drove to the lake yesterday and saw several signs mentioning a Lake Flat Earth Test, I believe in early February (perhaps the 2nd?).

Ok, I'm lost, what is a flat Earth Test and why do we need one on the lake?

I tried to Google about it and came up a bit short.

Did any one else see the signs?

Does anyone have any information about this?

Are any space aliens involved?

I don't have an answer Rich, however some (somewhat) possibly related discussion in some old threads.

Seems it's a popular theory to test when there is ice on a body off water over a long distance.

I'm curious too what people might know about this.

:) In your post it does not say if the test is trying to prove flatness or roundness.

Are any space aliens involved?

I hope so. Every winter when us summer boating people start going nuts we need something to read / talk about.

I saw the sign;

"Flat Earth Lake Test", 3pm, 2 Feb, Alton town docks. There is a lot on the net such as:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0hv127-2vI8

IMHO it is very difficult to accuracy conduct such a test such as taking into consideration atmospheric refection at that instant in time and just above the ice/snow surface. On winter days there is normally a temperature inversion just above the ice surface which can result in refracting the laser light to follow the curvature of the several mile ice surface.

I'm curious as to what person or group placed the signs and what they are doing?

Other internet Flat Earth links don't help to understand what will be going on at the lake.

The best argument I've heard for use with "flat earthers" is: "If the earth is flat, how is it that cats haven't knocked everything over the edge by now"?

Perhaps that already happened, on the original, flat earth, long, long ago. And we've already been knocked over the edge, but haven't realized it yet. Life is but a dream. (Is that a signpost up ahead?)
