Hey, fellow lake lovers!
I have a steel roof rack faring I need painted/powder coated.
Two questions: 1. if I paint myself, what should I use? 2. Is there someone here who does painting/powder coating who might offer me a deal? It's around 24" x 6".
Thanks!

Is it painted already?
Any hardware store sells cans of spray powder coating paint. Simple.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rWweLoOqk9sIt is not painted yet--fresh cut steel. I'm not well-versed in painting, other than cheap Krylon for Pinewood Derby cars and cover-ups. Looking at the other pieces, which are gloss black rather than textured, I don't actually think I need powder coat. Will a few coats of good spray paint hold up on the top of my 4Runner? If so, recommendation on paint?
PS I got a quote of ~$30 to powder coat locally, but am I right in thinking "powder coat" essentially means textured?

You need to do a google search and understand what powder coating is. It does not indicate textured at all. It is a durable alternate to paint that in many/ most cases is far more durable. If you can't properly paint it yourself, 30 bucks to powercoat it is a good value. Note value does not necessarily mean the cheapest alternative.

Powder coating attaches the color to the metal using an electrical charge. It is more durable than paint. I agree, $30 is cheap for powder coating.

I spoke to the fab company, and they said they usually only get 6-8 months out of Krylon. I'll look into that powder coating--thanks, all.
