Cow island tree salvage

We have a number of beautiful old growth white pines down. Does anyone do small scale salvage on trees like this? Seems like a waste to just let them rot.

Similar problem for us. Biggest hassle is the upended stumps which we will probably remove with crane and barge. You can wade through the brush with a chain saw and the smaller pieces will disappear in a few years. Stacked, you will make some animal habitat. I wouldn't burn pine in a woodstove, but cut split and well aged, say 2 years, we use it in the fireplace (12 x 12 flue) when we want quick burn that won't last long. well split, great kindling. You could have kindling for decades.
Mostly, there isn't enough value for somebody to take it away for free, even if you're on the mainland.

Sadly the economics aren't there. A friend who is a contractor with both a barge and heavy equipment to move logs couldn't justify the cost to transport some huge pine trees he dropped on an island project last summer.
