It's a reminder of how life used to be and should be. Simple.

They need to stop spreading rumors about how awesome it is, someone is going to buy the Hole in the Wall before I can afford it next year!!

If you put it that way - it's terrible, worst thing ever! Everyone should sell now while the selling is good... oh BTW my place isn't for sale :D

That better?

Island living is terrible! The views distract your attention from the TV. You go everywhere in an old boat instead of a nice car. Friends and family always want to visit.

Why do we put up with it?

Ursa Minor: So, presumably that makes you at least a second generation. Is that right? When did your family start on an island? Sane camp?

Descant, yes you're correct I'm second generation. My parents bought land on Cow Island late in 1967 and are already up for the season. We'll be opening our camp (20th year for us) on Little Bear tomorrow. It's amazing how time has passed and yet how clear those memories are even after all this time. Island time is a pretty big deal for us. :)

Compared to some I've met over the years, we're rookies. One of our neighbors on Little Bear has roots going back prior to the turn of the last century! As a teenager I used to do odd jobs for another gentleman who built his camp by hand just after returning from serving in World War 2. 30 odd years later I was 2 camps down from him building my own place.
