From the airport manager on the Alton Bay Seaplane Base and Ice Runway page. Please note that signs are out warning all about the airport, and the yellow cones and red cones marking the runway boundaries are, and have been, in place, just waiting for sufficient ice depth. Oh, but for the actions of a few.

Hi Everyone, Here is an up date on the Airport Runway conditions . We now have the thickness we were looking for and everything is marked out . But unfortunately despite our efforts to keep the Runway clear and parking area . Some one decided to go up and down the parking and runway when we had slush two days age after the rain with Snowmobiles and created ruts and grooves . That being said we will not be opening this weekend. Hopefully the warm temperatures Saturday and Sunday will help us smooth it out . There’s enough room for everyone. Please help by keeping off the marked areas thank you all.

Paul La Rochelle Runway Management
DOT.

Paul and his dedicated crew get no money from the town, state, or FAA. The FAA does provide the runway marking yellow cones. It is a true labor of love.

My son has wanted to land on the ice runway for many years. I always wanted to do it with him, but have not been able to. However, he did it on his own on Tuesday. He was pretty excited. Thanks to all those who put in the time, effort, and hard work to make the runway happen.

Yes!! Thanks to all who make the ice runway possible. My daughter landed on it several years ago and was thrilled. I did landing with skis on a snow covered bay in Maine, but never the ice runway. Bucket list.

Paul & Bob were out plowing today around noontime. Two pickup trucks plowing a 3000 x 100 foot ice runway, plus taxiways and parking ramps.
Dedication!
