Hi y'all! My boyfriend and I are visiting NH this weekend and staying near Winnisquam. My boyfriend is a big time ice fisher and is hoping to find a place with safe ice. We got a ton of rain in southern MA the other day and know it destroyed our state's ice, but since it's much colder here, we were hoping to find some. Any suggestions would be awesome, even if that requires to drive north of our Airbnb. We were in Lincoln last night and it seemed colder with more snow there, so we wondering if ice can be found (other than ice castles!). Any help is greatly appreciated! Happy ice fishing season! :)

Welcome to the Forum.

There are many bob houses on Alton Bay and off of Ellacoya state park right now along with ATVs and people fishing. It is likely the same in Meredith Bay.

As always, ask on site locals about ice thickness and danger spots.

This morning I noted 5 or 6 bob houses or tents out to the west of the Long Island town beach in Moultonborough. I saw another headed down the neck road for a presumed launch. That's a bit of a ride from the Winnisquam area, though.

Not to Worry

I would contact AJ's bait and tackle and ask where the ice is safe. I think you will find the info as up to date as possible.

Too many people follow the leader assuming he/she knows something you do not.

The ice is only safe where you physically check it. Don’t listen to anyone or believe anything you read on any forums. Get out there and do your due diligence by checking the thickness for your own safety.

Good luck!

Yes! Same thing I say about snowmobile crossings.
