Dan,

Special day here in my family as well.

Son-in-law reaches 17 years today, 8 deployments, as a CH-46 / V-22 flight crew member and recently transferred to Hawaii. Just notified of being selected for LTC

Son is approaching 10 years - service academy grad, with 3 deployments, just promoted to major

Very proud of both Marines -- but this Army vet with 22 years active / reserves ( a proud mustang ) cannot yet shout out while sitting with my Annapolis grad son at the December Army / Navy game -- Go Navy - Beat Army

Marines are a special breed !!!!

Great post Winni Retired!!... and I thank you ALL for your service to our country! My hitch was up over 35 years ago in the Corp (Reserves) but as they say, "once a marine always a marine"!

Now I am showing my age

It was back in my youth, even came with a personal letter from the draft board and President Johnson.

It was just expected - finish high school (64), join the military.

249 years later, after all the air bombardment, artillery, our greatest weapon is still a US Marine with his rifle.
