View Full Version : Foliage
Curious with the unusually warm temperatures in September - any thoughts on when we may see peak foliage around the lake?

According to the weather guy, not for a couple of weeks yet...
Weather can affect the brilliance of foliage. The shorter daylight is what triggers "peak" foliage. Here is a link:

Columbus Day weekend is always a good bet. :)

Though not around the big lake, I have been to North Conway and Gorham this week. The leaves have color in Gorham/Berlin/Lancaster area that may be worth the trip if that is what you are looking for. I would not call it 'peak' but the colors are there.

I'm wondering if we're even going to have foliage this year.Swamp maples are always red by mid September and there is very little color even now.
Lack of rain and unusual temps maybe? Hope it develops

Early ice storms a couple years ago have killed a large amount of white birch trees in the White Mountains. As New Hampshire’s official state tree, the white birch adds a large amount of yellow color to the foliage in that area. These vivid yellows are gone this year.

Peak color in Wolfeboro has been around October 17-21 in recent years. Seems to be later than usual up north. Not peak yet up by Mt Washington.
