Former Wolfeboro airport party

Anyone know what the huge tented party on the grounds of the former wolfeboro neck airport was this past Saturday? Maybe a Marriot family wedding perhaps? Loud music and huge private fireworks display were noted.

After abutting an active airport runway (and heliport) as long as we have, we've never experienced such disastrous mayhem!

A family that abuts that "party" didn't appear as expected that weekend. Perhaps they expect to have a normal weekend, normal sleep, and received advanced warning of the "party"? :confused:

If they're expecting to expand their present land-bound 115-acre holding to properties directly on the lake, additional "parties" can be expected to have that intended effect! :fire:

The property is undeveloped with exception of the caretakers house and certainly less busy and noisy than the past airport.

Even through a forest of huge trees, I thought that "music" was coming from right next door! :eek:

My neighbors have always been too considerate for that. :(

At dusk, the fireworks began. :eek:

There's been only one other occasion when such mighty sonic-blasts had taken effect along our shoreline. At that instant, neighbors to the blast yelled out immediately, "Stop-That!". (Even my mostly-deaf B-I-L yelled out—one not known for such activism!)

The "birthday party" continued past 11-PM, but I was too worn-out to determine the hour when such torture actually ended. :rolleye1:

BTW: about ½-hour after posting my previous reply, target-shooting took place from that "undeveloped" lawn-scape. While I don't have a gripe about their occasional target practice, the "timing" could have been better—AND you may have heard their very powerful rifles. :eek2:

Here's the story, from Tuesday—following the Birthday Party and the sinking of the sailboat—all of which could've been witnessed from our property:

Around Noon, I heard a continuous string of firework blasts. :eek2:

There doesn't seem to be a good reason to "celebrate" That Day in History—except Russia declared war on Japan—1945. :rolleye2: After five minutes, I looked across Winter Harbor to see a large plume of gray smoke a little west of Lloyd Road's "end":

"End", because a heavy gate has blocked access for some years. Many heavy trucks were heard in the same area, using their "Jake Brakes"—even as the blasting of fireworks continued. :confused:

It sounded as though an 18-wheeler loaded with fireworks had caught fire at one end! After ten minutes of blasts, I called Wolfeboro authorities to ensure there was no danger of forest fire.

A discussion at the dispatcher's office ensued, so then I was told there was no call-ins for a fire. Turning to me again, the dispatcher asked if the sound was definitely fireworks, I replied, "I'm very familiar with the sound of fireworks". :rolleye1:

The dispatcher then stated that fireworks were NOT LEGAL in Wolfeboro. :eek:

BTW 1: Can you guess who's running those wake-setter boats all over Winter Harbor? :rolleye1:

There are a ton of wake surfing boats in Winter Harbor.

I don't thing the Wolfeboro PD is too worried about your neighbors and their fireworks.

Alabaman Helen Keller, who was born with no hearing and no sight, is quoted—in American Sign Language—she would rather have her hearing than her eyesight. While I don't necessarily agree, I learned of this quote as a teen, and have been very protective of my hearing. This has paid off for this bird-watcher—now in retirement—as I can "bird by ear".

Snippet: Once, at a sale in a huge garage, a lady said, "Oh, listen to the Robin". While I should have kept my mouth shut, I corrected instantly, "That's an Osprey". :o

➳ Seeing the problems my BIL and other friends have with hearing aids, I've distanced myself away from all amplified noise. So, how should I respond when the amplified noise comes to me? :rolleye1:

My friendly neighbors who were absent during that "Birthday Party" may not be so friendly should another "Birthday Party" occur.

Those "tons" of wake-boaters play amplified noise—except when they want to speak to one another! :mad:

This site (http://www.airfields-freeman.com/NH/Airfields_NH.htm) shows the Marriott property at 580 feet of elevation, so subtract 504 feet for the lake, and you'll have aircraft making their take-off runs much higher than the cottages along the lakefront. We never knew a plane was in the air until we heard two things:

• First, the [louder] echo from the opposite shore.

• Second, a short buzz when the aircraft got airborne near the end of the runway.

• Third, twin-engine aircraft were noisier, but very infrequent. (OK, three. :o)

The Marriott's are not the only ones with Wake Boats.

But you've reminded me of last week, when I watched a Marriott Wake Boat approaching their boat house. Everything when smoothly until the two wake boards—Kah-Thunk—struck the entrance! :laugh:

...suggest you check out this 'old NH airport' website ......'This site' ....... It shows among other old NH air strips.....the old seaplane & small plane air strip ... Lakes Region Airport .... way down Wolfeboro Neck, and the old White Mountain Airport in North Conway that is now a shopping mall....believe what used to be the airplane hanger and airport office has been totally reconstructed and modified ..... now home to a large Old Navy retail store .... with a very expensive looking biplane weather vane atop the retail roof.....plus Route 16 in N Conway was a very different road in the old photo ... and, this is progress .....yikes!

The OP, who apparently lives nearly a mile from the "Birthday Party" wasn't me—and he got an answer; besides, I'm in good company. Radio host Howie Carr called himself an old fart just minutes after I viewed this comment. ;)

Sailing in two "Paradises" was a dream for retirement. You'll notice that the word is sorely missing around here, and another has noted that it's slowly disappearing in that other "Paradise":
