antique steamboat gathering

Last summer we boated from Smith Cove to Green's Basin and happened upon many antique steamboats up near Melvin Village and beyond. It was a beautiful sight and one we'd like to see again this year. Does anyone have any information as to the dates? bds

The steamboat meet usually is held starting the weekend after Labor Day. It runs about a week, with the steamboat parade on the last Sunday of the meet at 10:00 AM

According to Dave Thorpe, who is in charge of this event, this year is the 34th year.

Saturday, September 16th, they are planning an informal, consumer grade fireworks display. Should be fun!

Each Sunday features a parade!
September 10th parade at 2:00 pm
September 17th parade at 10:00 am
Hosted by Dave Thompson, the rally showcases 55 to 60 operating steamboats with several steam models on display.

best bet is at the Lee's mill launch itself, at least you'll see the boats at the dock and catch a glimpse of departure and return.

it may be possible to see them from State's Landing in the actual parade - you may need binoculars
