I currently have a home on Mark Island and my homeowners insurance seems to raise dramatically every year as the bigger companies change their rules and get more conservative about covering these types of properties. Unfortunately, my insurance provider on my primary home in MA won't cover it either.

Does anyone have any leads about companies that understand the Island market and will cover at a reasonable rate?

Appreciate the help. Thx

I don't have specific recommendations, but New England Risk Management in Manchester might be a good start--they do a lot of the insurance for my association.

search out agents that have Vermont Mutual and/or Phoenix Mutual as carriers

I recommend calling Avery Insurance in Wolfeboro. They're very familiar with island properties and also represent Phoenix Mutual, a New Hampshire company. Good luck!

Our property on East Bear Island has been insured since 1967 by Vermont Mutual through the Melcher & Prescott Agency in Laconia. 🐻
