I dunno, when our children were young we went to Weirs Beach--it was one of our favorites. Easy access, nice and clean, some fun wave action, cool jetty to watch boats, Mt. Washington and train to watch or take, arcades and pizza for a break, docks to check out...
Seems pretty good to me.

It wouldn't even be in my top 50 but I believe it could be some day. I hope I'm around to see it.

The beach itself is nice, nice little boardwalk, playground, tons of arcades, mini-golf, bumper cars, bumper boats, go karts, monkey trunks and that other ropes course, funspot, batting cages, boat rides, train rides, drive-in theater, fireworks, ice cream, junk food, etc.
Everyone likes to beat up on the Weirs from time to time, myself included, but lets not pretend the variety and density of stuff to do with the kids packed into about one square mile isn't worthy of at least a little recognition.
The writer for the Globe, Chris Morris , needs to get out more! He probably grew up on Havey Beach along the Charles River in Dedham MA. :D
I love the Lake, but really Weird Beach? Like prevoius thread said It is The Boston Globe.
Actually I think the Weirs could be a prime jewel!
They just need to upgrade the shops and arcades in the area, IMHO it's too run down.
In your minds eye, project the quality of Meredith and/or Wolfboro onto the shops at the Weirs, the area would be the best on the lake, with so much to offer everyone!
The Weirs area as so much to offer: A beautiful vista of the lake, A usable Beach, The Shops, Amusement for families, The Train, The Mt Washington, Many Marinas, The town docks, dining.
Have you ever been to Lake George?
The Weirs could become so much more than the run down former hot spot of the lake that it has become over the years.
I think the start of this is the new East Coast Flight Craft business taking over the pier next to the Mt Washington.
Let's hope that this is the spark needed to ignite some re-development, re-investment and re-building of the area! :)
If a few more businesses would invest in some of the prime locations at the Weirs and revamp it, I'm sure more would follow and the area could be a true Jewel of the lake!
I can see the potential every time I stroll down the boardwalk, but it's not there yet!

I agree, clean it all up. I know it's up to individual owners but the town can certainly come up with plans and pressure. Family's come from all over to spend weeks or more in the region, It plays a huge roll as a place for family's with little ones for enjoyment other than the lake and a time killer for parents. I don't have them that age anymore, and never spent much time there, so it doesn't do anything for me personally, but I understand why it is what it is, just should be nicer.

What's been happening lately, like today, yesterday, last week, and for the last few months; is a road, sidewalk, and overhead wires redo at the Weirs. Laconia is rebuilding the road, sidewalks, and putting the overhead wires under ground.
Building the Wow Trail will create a 9-mile plus, level, flat, waterfront bicycle/walking paved path, about ten feet wide or so(?), and Weirs Beach will be at the center of the Wow Trail. The Wow Trail could be a big deal for Weirs Beach ....... pedal, pedal, pedal, pedal ...... nine miles long on the waterfront ....like Wow!
So.....what is 9-miles long .....10-feet wide .....paved with smooth black asphalt ..... winds along the railroad right of way, next to the existing track, directly close to Lake Winnipesaukee .....and goes from Laconia to Meredith .....with Weirs Beach directly in the center of the trail ........... like www.WowTrail.org!
It seems like a bike/walking path could be a great fit for Weirs Beach ...... a 9-mile-plus railroad-bicycle trail.....on land already owned by the State of NH....the embankment right-of-way, and the existing, single, railroad track. You know..... think bicycling and a 3-hour cruise on the Mount Washington .....bicycling and going to the beach ......bicycling and going to a restaurant......bicycling and walking around the boardwalk and shops (what shops?).... or just bicycling and more bicycling.......like ......lets go bicycle back to Meredith! ..... and get the H away from Weirs Beach ....... yuuuch! ....... Weirs Bleach ........ bleeech!
