Best way to sell a used dock?

Hello all and hope to see everyone on the ice soon!

I'm replacing my 30'x4' aluminum dock. Anyone have advice on the best way to do this? I have no idea what the value or market is for a used dock.

Are you replacing it yourself? If a company is doing it have you asked them if they know of anything besides classifieds here and Craigslist?

They are, (or at least were as of two years ago when our dock was made), the sub that Watermark uses to build all of their aluminum crank-up docks. They might have some thoughts on how you could sell or otherwise dispose of it.

Watermark no longer uses East Coast Welding. That relationship ended when Watermark moved out of the building they shared with East Coast. I have used East Coast for other aluminum welding and fabrication projects. Good work, but not cheap.

Raise-A-Dock(Wakefield) used to do work for Watermark. I have a brochure that I got at Watermark when they were located at top of the hill between Meredith & Weirs. You might want to check with them. If dock has round galv post it probably came from Raise-A-Dock. Its a trait of theirs. I bought one.

Whatever you do, don't just let the other company take away the old dock. Not without first getting some significant compensation for it. Scrap aluminum is worth a small fortune and a 30'x4' dock has a lot of aluminum in it.

New aluminum docks are very expensive, and old aluminum docks probably have years of life left, and can be sold off on craigslist.nh in the boats section.

Suggestion; take about ten different photos on a sunny day, write up a thorough description, and ask what you think is a fair selling price depending whether you want a fast sale, or don't mind holding onto it for a while.

Having lots of quality photos taken on a sunny day is very helpful to a buyer. If it doesn't sell after a month, then could be time to lower the price.

My 40' aluminum dock is an oldy, believe it is a vintage 1952, and still going strong, except for the four 1 1/2" galv steel pipe supports in one section. Aluminum, stainless steel, and Evinrude outboard motors all last almost forever in the slightly acidic Lake Winnipesaukee water.

Current scrap value for clean aluminum has been hovering around .45 cents per pound for the past year. It was up as high as 70 cents a pound before that...
