Well, we closed up this weekend (on Rattlesnake). It looks as if a lot of other folks closed up (at least on Rattlesnake) - or are in the process of closing up - this weekend, too.
Sad to see the summer flee so fast.... oh well we say that every year :)

Where did the time go?! I am sad that the season is drawing to a close. Maybe this weekend for us. Have a great winter! Hope to see you in the spring.

Thanks R.G. - Yes, hope to be back in the spring !!
But, may consider selling the house on the Island next summer. I have a different job, where I am on call, and the 2 hour drive from the Island to home is prohibitive.
Hey, at least the market is better than it was a few years ago !
Oh well - we'll see

You could keep it and rent it out. I hate to see anyone sell...it can be so hard to get back in.

Sorry to hear you're considering selling, IR. My advice, though unsolicited: Hold on to the place as best you can while you hunt for a different job. The job market, like the housing market, has improved over the last couple years.

We're in a rising market. Lease for the season or 2 or 3. See some of the history on the "Friendly rock" thread. Of course, if you're willing to sell out for (just) a job...

Thanks for all the good comments :)
Selling on the island (while not cast in stone) is motivated by several things.
I'm trying to move closer to retirement and I don't have a pension. So, freeing up the money will be a big help in that regard.
There are a number of lakes (albeit, much smaller!!) in the local (to me) area - 1/2 hour's drive from the house. I am looking for land. It would be great to build a place from scratch!! And the cost will be a lot less than Winnipesaukee (if I build, that is). Buying "ready to go" places on lakes is expensive, of course. I know how to build houses - have done it 3 times.
The 2+ hour drive is definitely a problem. I've almost fallen asleep at the wheel more times than I dare recollect. Probably an old age thing ;)
The big lake is fabulous, no doubt about it ! Been there in some capacity for 30 years - either renting several weeks every summer or owning.
Anyway, we'll see what happens. No concrete plans at the moment
