Does anyone know the general location of the Tootsie Roll house on Squam? This is a house that was built by the founder of the Tootsie Roll company and at least part of the house is shaped like a Tootsie Roll. Wondering if it is visible from the lake?

Pull up "April Ln, Center Harbor" and that will give you a rough sense of where it is on the shore. I don't think its actually on April Ln - Thats just the general area.

Its probably visible from somewhere on the hiking trails in Chamberlain Reynolds.

Everyone says its looks like a tootsie roll but to me it just looks like a brown house with a large glass solarium.

I have worked for the family that owns this home and I thought the same about it being built after a tootsie roll . The home owner that built this house has nothing to do with the Hershey Co. or any candy that's associated with it. The house is really cool though .... You really cant see it from the water because of the trees but you might if your just off the dock. Its South East from Dog Cove a bit......

Tootsie and Hershey have nothing to do with each other, totally different companies.

The house was built by the owners of Tootsie industries, Mel and Ellen Gordon. My mom worked for them as a housekeeper for many years.

The "tootsie" part of the house is really just a curved sun room. Originally there was a lot of trouble with it leaking and causing a ton of headaches for the architect, Bill Meade, who was the son of another local wealthy family.

That's interesting Mel told me he was a lawyer and it had nothing to do with the candy when I had asked him about it . I have known the Gordon's for many years and it really never came up again. I have to say though I have been in the house many times and its a pretty cool sun room. Thanks for the update to my post......

I'm not surprised. The company has always been very secretive.

Thanks ! That was an interesting article and now I know why Mel and Ellen had a big smile on there faces when they said they were lawyers. Well I still do work for them and I will keep this to myself when I talk to them and just get a chuckle out of it. Mel has to be at least 96 by now and I hope he's doing well since its been a couple of years since I've seen him. Thanks again.... :D
