What if anything is happening with the shopping center being built near the Alton Circle?

I've been wondering about that, too. Last I heard, there was going to be a Hannaford's grocery store and a Merideth Village Savings Bank branch. The same source said they were going to be built & open for business in the spring of '05. Maybe next year .....

Most if not all approvals on the town and state level have been approved and I heard ground breaking was to start in June...However given the weather we have endured over the last month and a half, it may be too wet to start. I will try to find out more and report back.

Heard through the rumor mill that the Hannaford store won't be built for another year or so. Since Hannaford is building new supermarkets in Gilford and Rochester perhaps they are staggering their schedule for new stores and the one in Alton has lesser priority. Even if all the town/state permits are approved, perhaps the corporation can't build so many stores in the same year.
