Got to say that Heaths should be congratulated for supporting so many local farmers. During the season they have almost every fruit and vegetable that you can think of.....all grown locally.
Keep in mind that these have not been picked green and artificially ripened like the chain stores or waxed and sprayed to prevent spoilage so they must have a lot of losses due to the short shelf life.
Might be a few pennies more but well worth it in my opinion and you're supporting local growers.

E. M. Heath's Is a very good store! Years ago we ordered the ForumFest cake from them. It absolutely perfect with the Winni.com logo. They went the extra mile and found a tiny waving figure to put in the sailboat. Everyone thought it tasted excellent. Whenever we are up in that area, we stop in.

Understand the #1 biggest selling item in Heath's, bananas, are grown locally on the mountain side, banana farm up in Sandwich. Bananas grown in Sandwich soak up that long summer sunshine for a quality fruit .....way-to-go Sandwich!
And, very reasonably priced at 59-cents/lb ..... :D:)
Sorry to say I usually avoid that place far as prices go. Typically frequent Hannafords more when I'm out Meredith way however Heaths is still my go-to place for that one or two items your in a bind for certainly over the little "corner" stores.
You have to watch the register closely at Heath's. If the correct price is rung up, it's just by accident.

That is a pretty bold and accusing statement to be making on a public forum! Without any kind of proof whatsoever this post should be deleted!

I teach my kids math by adding up what we buy when grocery shopping and comparing to the register total--in three summers I've never found a mistake.

I'm not saying it's deliberate, just sloppy, and management doesn't seem to care. I have told the store manager a half dozen times over the last few years to no avail. I go there several times a week and each time something is rung up wrong, especially sale items. Just yesterday I bought tomatoes @ .99/lb. and it was rung up at 5.99/lb.
BTW, I keep all my receipts, so I have proof.

My apologies...thought you were insinuating that you were being over charged.
Sorry;

My fault. I wasn't very clear in my post.

This is pretty clear and I dont believe it.

If I was "rung up wrong" every time I went to the same store,I wouldnt go back "several times a week".
Exaggerating will make your point look worthless.

We have to go to Heath's every day to pick up fresh ground hamburg for the restaurant and we have yet to find an error.
Not that they don't make mistakes because all of us do from time to time, especially during the busy summer months with seasonal employees.
When ever you buy an item that is on sale it's a good idea to watch the cashier key it in to make sure it's on the computer.

I don't care if you believe it or nor not. I issued a word to the wise. The UNwise can pay extra.

Add me to the list. I've been dealing with Heath's for 50 years and they are honest merchants, who wouldn't be in business all these years if their business practices were sloppy.

Been shopping at Heath's for 20 years and maybe occasionally there is an inadvertent error but consistently? BS. Why is it these threads always start off with praise and denigrate to critique?
Maybe it's time I try Heaths again, went to Moulton Farm yesterday grabbed 6 corn and 3 Tomatoes they came to $13.33 I left there saying to myself never again. I don't know maybe I'm out of touch but I found that to be very high. The corn was very good and the Tomatoes were "ok" wouldn't exactly call them fresh "stand quality."

I bought 6 ears of corn last week at Heaths for $2.00. It was very good. One trip to Mouton Farm was enough for me.Walked out empty handed.

Don't forget that Heath Market, as well as Heath Hardware, offers what we call a Geezer Discount, a 5% discount on Thursday if you are 60 yo or older.
We shop at Heath all the time and have had no problems. The people there are eager to please. If you find you were overcharged, just bring your receipt in and they will happily make it right.
Their meat is excellent! When we buy on sale to fill the freezer and don't call ahead, and we need more than they have in the cooler, they are always happy to stop what they are doing and cut and package more for us.
Bottom line? A great place with GREAT people!
