View Full Version : Too hot inside enclosed trailer

I thought I would share what I made to keep the inside of the trailer temperature manageable.
1. I made this screen to install into the front hatch, which is hinged so the sides fold down for storage.
2. I bought two $6.00 fans at Walmart and mounted them on the inside of the screen to bring in air
3. I bought two Muffin (computer fans) on Amazon and mounted them inside at the side vents to exhaust the ceiling height trapped hot air out.
4. I bought a "Inkbird" temperature controller on Amazon to turn the fans on & off at set temperature. Located the Thermocoupler 1" off the ceiling
Here are a few pics.

Pretty slick. Most people don't think about how hot their trailers get in the summer. I don't worry about it as I keep mine in the garage.

Unfortunately I don't have a garage option, but I do try to keep the trailer in the most shaded part of the yard. Before I made this set-up I saw an air temp of about 135 degrees along the area of the trailer ceiling. The trailer had direct sun beating down on top of it that 90 degree hot day. With today's outside air temp being close to 90 degrees, I only saw the inside temp being around 95. Better than 130 without the set-up!

What is the expected harm with such interior trailer temps without sunlight? The only thing that comes to mind first would maybe be upholstery damage somehow.

My sled is in the garage but I still remove the seat and keep it in the house. Slick set up though.

Ah, the possibilities: one would be that when the other half kicks you out of the house, you don't have to share the doghouse with the dog. You could have your own place equipped with "whole house fans". ;)

Why not park your trailer where it's in the shade or at least doesn't get baked with direct sun all day long?

The heat will kill batteries and the temperature swings will cause condensation in fuel and oil tanks.

Hmm. I have always wondered about the heat build up in the trailer as well but my machines have always been stored in the trailer and I've had no adverse effects. I charge my batteries a couple times over the summer and they have been fine. I suspect the vast majority of machines are stored in trailers. I would think condensation would be the biggest concern with ethanol in the gas. When I get my sleds ready for the season I syphon as much gas as possible out of them and fill them with fresh.

Interesting. Will have to try it out as I just keep mine outside all summer.
