My boat trailer has worn tires on the inside since we bought the boat and trailer new. I noticed it was almost time to replace the tires again and thought I might replace the axel to a higher rating. I dug out the boat paperwork last night and was surprised that the trailer was only rated for 2200 lbs and the boat and trailer empty is heavier than that. The axel is bowing from the weight and has a negative camber thus wearing the tires on the inside. It sounds like an easy repair but figured I'd ask the forum for any suggestions before I start.

The trailer outlet in tilton will have what you need or do tbe work for you.

I second checking with the Trailer Outlet. The owner, Joe, is fair and knowledgeable.

I checked a couple of other trailer places last year before buying a trailer from him for less than the other prices I was getting. He sells a lot of trailers so he must be doing something right.

Axles are typically made to order for boat trailers so expect to wait a bit to get one. If you can, go with something that can handle more than 3500 lbs and get 15" wheels instead of 14". That dramatically improves the tire selection.

I "third" the Trailer Outlet. Matter of fact, ask what a properly sized new trailer might cost. I got a boat trailer from Joe last year last year (22' boat) for less than half what I have seen commonly quoted; all aluminum dual axle with brakes (one axle). By the time you replace an axle you may be able to get a much better new trailer for not much more money.

He also fixed up my snowmobile trailer for a VERY reasonable price and gives GREAT advice for free!

I gave Joe a call today after reading the glowing references. I'm going to double check the dimensions tonight and place an order tomorrow. Thanks for the inputs!
