I have an outside 275 oil tank in a shed attached to the house.
I burn #2 oil in my furnace.

As the tank is exposed to outside temperature,s I treat the oil with 'Power Service Diesel Fuel Supplement' to prevent gelling. I swear by this stuff.

Last time I had an oil delivery I added the appropriate am amount the diesel supplement to the amount of oil pumped into tank.

Question.... since temps this w/e could drop below zero, could I add more diesel additive as a safety caution. Obviously, the best way to add is before an oil delivery, so not so sure if adding more at this time would actually help ?

Can you over-add diesel fuel supplement to a tank ?

Thanks.

You did not say what brand of conditioner you use. Another problem with an outside tank is the moisture that lays on the bottom of the tank. I use off-road diesel in my tank to heat my shop, and add "Howes" fuel conditioner.
I try to shut the burner down for 8-12hrs after a delivery so that the sediment and water lays down. I have my pick-up at 4inches above the bottom of the tank.
To answer your ???. Yes you can add more conditioner, but to exceed 125% is a waste of conditioner, and not going to make a difference.

You can add more Power Service (PS). We burn off road fuel in our Tucker Snowcats that sit outside and add more PS than prescribed.
