Question !

I just installed a new bathroom sink. Done at least a dozen of these installs over the years at several property ocations.

Well....this time had issues. The chaulking I spread around the underside of the sink base, never appeared to setup or dry. I only know because, I went to use the sink a few days after installing, and the sink slide around on the counter base. I checked the chaulking base from under the cabinet and it was still wet and tacky, never dried or set up properly?

I used GE Silicon II chaulking in my chalking gun. I've used this brand for years witout any issues. Label indicates it is an adheasive as well as a sealing chaulk against water.

The chaulking was over a year old, does that make any difference, or does it loose it's sealing properties? It appeared to look normal when I was spreading.

Now I have to disconnect everythng, pull the sink and start all over again!:(

Has anyone run into this problem before with chaulking?

It does get old. I had a similar problem and until then never even noticed it had a date on it.

There is usually an expiration date on the side of the caulking tube. If your using it much beyond this date and depending on how it was stored it most likely is no good and will not setup properly.

Yup, I've run into this before, more than once. Old caulking can have lots of issues with curing properly (or failing to cure).

In the stages of replacing third sink at my home....

First was a nightmare, second was easier (lessons learned), this third one has me puzzled?

The sink I'm replacing is stuck like glue to the counter-top.
Sink was originally installed 25+ years ago.

I reaching here, but think when originally installed they didn't use regular latex caulking but maybe 'Liquid Nails' adhesive ?

I can't even get a razor between sink and countertop to cut the caulking.

Thoughts on approach ?

Hammer and putty knife.

The installer likely coated all mating surfaces instead of a few spots here and there.

Wear goggles.
