We have had some cats hanging around our property on Rattlesnake Island.
They are fighting and making all kinds of commotion at night.
Does anyone on the island know if these cats belong to somebody or are they abandoned and turned Ferrell.

Where do they even drive them out there? (c'mon, you were all thinking it)

We have a single black cat hanging around our property on Rattlesnake. I have been told by neighbors that there are some abandoned cats on the island, and they have been there for a while.
We don't have any animals so we have never tried to approach the cat to see if it is tame or not. It usually runs off as soon as we are around.

Sad commentary when folks abandon their pets when summer vacation is over.

Okay all corrected.
Not completely. The word is spelled feral not ferrell.
Someone needs to dope-slap the people who left them to fend for themselves.

Makes us mad too. We've taken in 3 abandoned cats over the years .It's a lot of responsibility and expense considering food and vet fee's but we're softies when a kitty comes to our door and it's usually in the fall or early winter after the summer people have left.

I would rather think that folks brought them up for vacation and the cat "roamed" off and couldn't be found when it was time to go back home. I know....same difference for the cats, but some folks might be missing their pet.

Cats have no business being free to roam . It not only is dangerous for them but they are voracious hunters of birds and should be kept inside or on a leash.

When I used to train macaws and conures they had leg leashes, it's fairly common actually.

Ohhhhh: I think Black Cats are Bad Luck. The other day my wife and I were driving along a back road and a black cat crossed the road in front of us:  We didn't want to take any chances so we turned around and went back the way we came: I guess we did good because we have not had any bad luck so far. :D NB

Falcons are not birds: They are "Raptors". :) NB

What makes you think they were abandoned....:look: NB
It is entirely possible that the cats weren't abandoned on the island but rather crossed over the ice during the winter and found a place relatively free of large predators with decent hunting available. One expecting female crossing over would be all it would take to have a small population.
How sad if they're lost or specially if left on purpose!

I'm thinking that Rattlesnake is not going to have many chipmunks this summer.
