Water heater died. I found the brand I wanted, Rheem, at Home Depot. They use Wilkins Plumbing for installation. But Wilkins is down toward Manchester. I'd welcome recommendations for a plumber/installer closer to M'boro where we live.

Gas or electric? If it's gas the installer needs a separate license in addition to the plumbing license.

We have propane and used American Heat and Hot Water out of Tilton (Denise Chase). Very happy with the service.

For regular plumbing needs we use Minute Man Plumbing in Meredith. Very happy with them as well. They don't do gas installations though.

I give thumbs down to Wilkins Mechanical. When they bought the rentals from Keyspan my bills were often Fouled Up. I got dunning notices before I even got the bill sometimes.

When I needed a water heater a few years ago I went to Home Depot and was told WM was their service provider. They tried to say that the new zoning rules meant all I could get was an on-demand direct vent (making a long story less long) run 15 feet to the wall for $4k. I told my neighbor about this and he told me to speak with a plumber who lives down the street. For$1200 I got a conventional heater and since it was the same thing I already had I didn't need a permit.

By all means get a price from them but check and independent plumbers rates.

We also highly recommend Minuteman Plumbing in Meredith (603-279-3323) for any plumbing related calls. Gas hookups are done separately as noted by DessertDweller

Good luck with your project.

I did my own. Took about 2h. Wasn't a bad job at all. I soldered in two unions on top so it would be an easy swap if I ever had to replace it again. Definitely one of the easier jobs I've done.

Would be nice if known gas or electric.

Advise for plumber to use flexible piping to heater. Makes next time to change much easier. You have to ask for this usually.
Some plumbers like to solder copper to tank. Makes it much more time consuming next time.

My grandson recommended J&M Plumbing, Meredith.Called them yesterday afternoon. This morning, they arrived at a few minutes after 8 with the new heater. Completed the job by 10:15. Great job. Neat. Reasonable price.
