Moultonboro Town Hall Cupola Hit by Lightening

Last night's storm scored a direct hit on the cupola of M'boro's town hall. The wooden ball on top was shattered and is laying all over the roof today. It reminded me of the Back to the Future movie, but I didn't see any Delorean tire tracks in the parking lot.:laugh:

Seroiusly, Moultonborough needs to create a 15-million dollar, Moultonborough home for 4-indoor tennis courts / indoor swim pool / indoor ice arena .... which works out to 5-millions dollars per each venue ... easy-peasy ... and call it the Moultonborough Recreation Centre ... or just the Centre!


Just a-think of all the new jobs it will create! ......hoot-hoot-hoot! .....that's one hoot for each new Moultonborough sports venue! .... hoot-hoot-hoot-hurray!!!


You all know that Moultonborough is a long, long ways from anywhere.....so's a new 15-million dollar Moultonborough Recreation Centre will make it worth the long drive .... to get to the Centre!

Just imagine, or picture yourself doing the Zumba Aqua Waka Waka inside the new Moultonborough town swim pool, all through the long, cold winter.

A lightning bolt struck the newest and tallest house in our Wolfeboro neighborhood. It hit the porch and destroyed one entire side. The structural wood that supported the new valley flashing was blown into splinters.

Like at our Wolfeboro summer camp buildings, heavy copper lightning rods and cables would have directed the lightning to ground. In this new house, however, the path of the lightning bolt followed the new copper flashing to ground!

Good point, Aps. I am not an electrical engineer, nor am I a roofer, nor a builder, so I wonder if any of thoses types of trades take into consideration the down-side of using extensive copper flashing in roof valleys. The cooper looks really nice, and will probably last almost forever, but, as Aps says, a heavy-duty copper wire serves as a wonderful ground lead, so, maybe a copper valley would serve as the same, only with less desireable results.
