Has anyone ever heard the lake referred to Richmond Lake before?

There’s lots of interesting stuff on this 1784 map! :D
I found this one with a break in the center, as if taken from a book. I couldn’t fight the urge to fix it!

Notice that Alton was called (New Durham) Gore with Merrymeeting Bay prominently featured. Laconia and Gilford didn't exist as they were part of Gilmanton. Meredith and Center Harbor were called New Salem (as in New Salem Street in present day Laconia). Sanbourn Town = present day Sanbornton. I love old maps.

We were talking about some of this stuff OVER HERE (http://www.winnipesaukee.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1629)

What a fantastic map!

I can't make out some of the island names. What does it say at Bear Island?

I love this map. The road ways show the original way into the settlements.
Notice Smith Pond(Lake Wentworth) was about the same size as today and I thought is was greatly expanded with the dam. Also, the Wentworth Houfe is the claim to fame of Wolfeboro(Oldest summer Resort).

Merrymeeting Lake is a different shape too. Makes sense as the lake was raised and expanded when the dams were put in.

Old maps are soooo cool.I found it interesting that as McDude said,Merideth was called New Salem. But if you look at the map it says"formally Merideth".So it looks like it was named Merideth a few times in it's history. SS
