We need a local checking account in the Center Harbor/Moultonborough area and wondered if people have a decided preference. Had a need of a notary and stopped in at Meredith Village Savings and they were very nice and accommodating. Any thoughts?

MVSB branch at the border of Center Harbor & Moultonborough is the best; great people and professional service.

I've used MVSB for notarizing things (once a year). Another useful thing is that MVSB has another office in Moultonborough, just west of the Old Country Store and next door to the Post Office, handy if you're on your way to the dump and are combining errands.

Laconia Savings Bank/Bank of New Hampshire is the best.
One free money order per day.
Meredith Village Savings Bank. Have account there too. Nice.
But pay for money order.
And when I needed 3 signatures for a will - they refused.
No problem with Bank of NH/Laconia Savings Bank.
I dumped Citizens Bank.
For checks I cash - they wrote my drivers license number AND Social Security Number on front of check. Apparently, they never heard of identity theft.
I was later advised by the NH president of Citizens that the SSN was not bank policy but the drivers license number must be on front of check cashed at Citizens Bank.
Fact note: From what I have read, MVSB is the richest savings bank in New Hampshire. Not important. Just interesting. Apparently a lot of retirees place their money in CD's there.
My humble opinion is that mvsb is getting way too big for their britches!!
Their fees are becoming worse than that of a city bank and the tellers have no personality and could care less about your relationship and loyalty to the bank.
I've even been refused a withdrawal just because I didn't have my passbook with me (yes, I did have proper id!)
Citizens in wolfeboro had friendly, courteous tellers who remember who you are and representatives who know about their products and make sure you know what you're getting! I wish I could say I received the same service in meredith, but wolfeboro seems to be the only one.

We financed a cottage through MVSB and have had a checking account there for many years. Never had a problem. All the people we've encountered have been pleasant, competent, and helpful.
