My Visio TV is going blank on the video side. The audio is no problem.
However, when I press the volume control on TV remote the video comes back on the screen,
but only lasts for about a minute, then screen goes black again.
Only have Roku, so cannot test video from any other source.
Do you think it is the TV itself or the Roku device causing the issue?
TV is only 5 years old :(

Had the same problem with my Vizio as well, called their 800 support #..they gave me some steps to follow, ie unplugging, resetting etc..ultimately they sent me a software update on a flash drive, worked wonders..good luck.

There should be a USB port on the back of the TV

There is a USB port on the side or back of the tv
Good idea to call their support people. I had a similar problem and it turned out to be the light source was either over temp or too low and it shut off. I replaced the light source and it was fine. YMMV

Another video source is the built in menu, the remote should have a menu button. If you can see the menu long enough you should be able to find the software version.
On the Visio web site you should be able to download the manual which should cover how to update the software. You should also be able to download any software update and then transfer it to a USB memory stick aka flash drive.
Doubt it is a Roku problem however their online tech support is pretty good. You could try live chat or fill out the web submission form.

I've had similar issues with my TV.
Unplug everything. Don't reconnect anything. Except.
Connect the TV directly with the RG6 (black round wire).
Of course plug in the TV again and try this. Use TV start button if you can find it. There may be a manual (on TV) MENU button. Make sure that you are on the TV and not some other accessory listed in the MENU. If you have the actual remote that came with TV make sure new batteries and try that.
In other words try the TV alone as if there were no other equipment attached.

Also on the older Visio TV's the power cord had built in a small black box as part of the power cord. On the early Visio TV's that was known to give out.
New Visio's have a regular power cord.

FIXED IT !!!!! :)
Went online and did some research specifically pertaining to 'VISO blank screen'. Appears my issue is realted to 'black light' option on TV.
One recommendations suggested going through the menu options to 'picture' control and turn off the 'black-light' feature. I did that and whal-la picture working fine now......
I think what this black-light function does, is limit the actual white light mixing with other colors on the screen. Not sure what the factory setting is, but ill check that, and may reset TV just to check it out. I suspet all digital TV's have this 'black-light' option, and nothing unique to Visio.
Anyway, the TV seems to be working fine again. Next TV however, will not be a Visio, as I think they're at the bottom end of the scale.
As always , thanks to the Forum for their help to diagnose the issue.

I have a newer Visio 50" Smart TV. Last of the thicker LCD models.
The last of the ones that had the speakers facing the viewer on bottom of TV.
All new TV's now have the speaker facing down. Not toward the viewer.
Love this Visio TV. Works great.

I recently bought a 55 Vizio M series based on a few website value ratings tests.Picture almost as good as my plasmas but the one thing I noticed is with movies I'm getting what appears to be the "soap opera effect".Never seen it before but on some movies it is a very noticable and annoying difference.I'm sure its some setting but I havn't spent any time to figure it out.

If you Google vizio setup or something like that, someone has a custom setting to eliminate the soap opera effect. I tried the settings and I am extremely pleased. I bought a Vizio 60 E series, which is the lower class. I am very pleased with it despite missing a view bells and whistles.
I am able to stream my laptop screen to my tv. This eliminate having to pay for Roku, Apple et al. All network shows are available for free on the internet. As for movies, imdb, youtube has some free ones. For $8.99 you can stream from Netflix tons of HD movies. No cable for me!

I have a couple of the newer Vizio 55" HDTVs. Walmart specials at around $600 each. The one at the lake runs off my IPad which has my SlingBox app on it. I'm watching my home cable box over 100 miles away, local news, DVR etc. So far, very happy and I finally ditched the $70+ DirecTV bill.
