What has happened to viewing this website from a phone?
Did I accidentally click on something to make it change?
How can I get the website forums back on my phone? I'm using the app for the forum and its terrible.

Out trusty webmaster is testing settings. This is mandated by Google that websites be mobile friendly or lose ranking in searches.

We have to be patient. Don do you want people to let you know what they see on their phones and it they like it?

I have no problems accessing the website with Tapatalk.

Maybe I need to get the Tap Talk, I'll see how it goes and if Don makes any changes. In my humble, forever grateful, non techie opinion the current mobile interface seems a little old school. I'll make whatever we get work

As someone who has been building web sites since 1995, I can tell you that the app is not the solution. Google is genuine in telling web site owners to make things mobile friends or get dropped in the rankings. An app is great, but not a solution that google cares about.

Most sites these days are responsive, like mine. This means when you adjust the screen size, the site adjusts with it. So it is the same thing regardless if on a desktop, ipad, or mobile.

Really it needs to be done.

There is no easy solution to this and no going back. To comply with Google, visitors have to be sent to a mobile-friendly site template when using a mobile device. The normal style of this site does not comply. The mobile style you see now is meant to be bare-bones and is only temporary. I don't like it either and I'm looking for a better style. One feature I'm looking for is the ability to switch to the full style from the mobile style. It seems like that would be the best workaround.

The other problem is that none of the mobile styles made to work with vBulletin (the forum software) will display the other areas and pages of the site like PhotoPost, the Classifieds or the WeirsCAM. Tapatalk doesn't either but it is still a great option if you're mainly interested in the forum.

The long-term solution is to upgrade the entire site to new versions of the forum and content management system that has all the mobile templates built in. That would be a big project because of all the customization and 3rd party pieces I'm using. Some would be incompatible with the new versions and open up all kinds of other problems. The upgrades may have to be done eventually but it won't be easy.

For you tablet users, I've excluded the iPad since it's not considered a mobile device in this case and I can exclude other tablets if you let me know what kind you have.

Please be patient as I figure out the best way to make all this work. It's just me dealing with this in my spare time which is sometimes hard to find.

Are there any other people out here that could, and would be willing to, help our beloved WEB-MASTER work out this problem???

Don,

Thank you for the work you put into the website. I enjoy it very much.

I've been looking into my options today and decided to disable the mobile site redirect for now.

Yes I just noticed that the mobile is not running right now.

I use Chrome for android on the phone and yesterday when the mobile site was up I noticed:
tap menu>request desktop site. Was able to toggle back and forth between mobile and desktop.

To comply with Google, visitors have to be sent to a mobile-friendly site template when using a mobile device.

But that's really only if you're highly concerned about google search rankings. Honest question, how many (quality) visitors are you getting from Google? Is that a big contributor to site traffic?

If you're more concerned about google traffic for things like ads you could make a subdomain (ads.winnipesaukee.com) and do mobile redirs there only.
