BTW ... if you are really thinking that everything will be put away in "a few months", dream on! It never seems to work out that way!
Did you find the shovel you packed or us it buried?

...during the big storm. But then I went back to Ohio and made sure the snowblower was loaded for first thing off the truck! lol

Thanks! We are so very happy to be here. Took a ride up to Tamworth to visit the DMV... Great views, nice time (till we got to pay for the licences.) Then we took a drive back into Alton to have a Sub at the Village Pizza, much enjoyed. Then it was time to go into the Town Hall to title and register the Jeep. Very nice and all went well (until I got the bill. Oye). Registered the Dog while we were there. Then a quick ride across the way to Wayne's Transmissions to have the Jeep Inspected. IT PASSED! I was glad of that.. Not an unreasonable inspection fee, but after nearly 20 years in a state that doesn't have inspections, it too added to the day's bill. High point of the day was realizing that the second car is still in Ohio and I can breath a bit before that one gets billed. Additional good news, Mama's licence picture came out real nice... :)

My first post
My wife an I will return to the Lake after a very trying 16 years in Southern California (currently San Diego). Our last kid is going to be starting college (somewhere in CA - still waiting for letters to see which one) and the wife wants to wait one full academic year to see how he does. So it looks like June-September time frame in 2016....
Good bye soon to $325 a month Water Bill, $500 a month electric bill, $3.69 a gallon Gasoline, 12% personal Income tax, 10% Sales Tax.
We've been married 32 years and lived many places in all those years - the ONLY place we ever talk about is living in New Hampshire. California has been good to us, and no complaints about living in beautiful San Diego, but can anyone really even think of retiring in California? Tax the 401K, IRA, Pension? I don't think so. It can't get here fast enough.
See you-all soon !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I fully understand your excitement. After 35 years in SoCal, I too realized my dream of getting back to the Lakes Region. Bought my lakefront cottage ib 2005 and retired in 2014 to spend 5 months a year there. However........a few surprizes....while no state income or sales tax, NH has to be more creative on the revenue generation front. Here are a few differences that you'll see
Automobile registration fees about 3x higher in NH, no prop 13 in NH, property taxes and other assessments are higher. except when in peak, most vegatables and fruits are more expensive than what you find in Cal.
All that being said, it is well worth it. Nothing replaces the experience of lakeside living. Now in all fairness I grew-up there but have no desire to spend my winters there. I know I can visit anytime in the winter should the desire hit me!
Good luck !

See you-all soon !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Welcome to the Forum. My wife and I retired to the lake from MA 12 years ago, after dreaming about it for 10 years prior to that. There's no other place we'd rather be! Hope your dream comes true on schedule!

Thanks for the warm welcome, folks... I am so grateful.
LOL but (I know it's Maine and not NH saying) "If ya can't handle the Wintahs, ya don't deserve the Summahs"
I can definitely relate to the few things I will miss about SoCal, but seriously, the increases you list pretty much make-up for the single month of a water bill! I'll happily pay the extra $200 a year for registration and 10 cents for my oranges!!!!
Enjoy paradise folks - I'll see you on the hikes !!!!!
