So who's doing the derby this weekend??
I always look forward to Derby weekend! Many of my family members come out to enjoy the day and there's always a new story to tell every year. As the years go by many of the stories get so embellished it becomes comical!!
For me and those who fish with me, the derby is not about money and prizes, it's about getting together and spending quality time with family and friends on the hard water. And yes, its about those stories,... those wonderfully fact stretched stories that get passed on and down to the younger family members and friends that laugh incessantly no matter how many times they have heard them before.
So, who's going??

I'll be up at my camp all weekend....... but since I have never had any luck ice fishing I'll just bomb around on my sled and check out the fish board in Meredith. It's a grim reminder that there are those that know what they are doing and me, well I ain't got a clue!
That's OK though, once spring time comes I'll catch plenty!

What happens to all the fish nailed up to see? I just read the Weirs Paper & in Pa. where I come from we have ALOT of deer. I have only seen 12 in Nh in 18 years. Maybe you should have lowered the limits long before you did. Also if the state has a rapid falling of moose, maybe you shouldn't hunt them at all,(Never saw any of them). Don't you think tourists come for that? I also asked the fish & game to help stock and was told we have employees to do that. Well in Pa. they use 3 employees & 20 vollenteers,to stock 3,000 trout, per truck. It helps the budget, & keeps the license fee lower.

What happens to all the fish after the Derby?
Form their site...
"None of the fish are thrown away. Throughout the Derby, if a fisherman doesn't want the fish that was caught it is put aside for the Squam Lakes Natural Science Center. All unwanted and/or non-winning fish are picked up by the Science Center on the Sunday of Derby weekend, following the grand prize award ceremony. The fish are used to feed the otters, ospreys, and other creatures at the Science Center throughout the winter ... delectable treats like Trout-sicles! The osprey particularly like Perch!"

I always wondered what happened to them. Glad the captives are going to eat well this week.
