I have done a very informal, non scientific experiment with my pellet stove this week. In the last several days I have burnt three bags each of "Maine's Choice", "Granules LG" and "Cleanfire Pacific". Obviously it would be a challenge for a home owner to measure the heat output but the ash content difference was dramatic. By far the least ash came from the Cleanfire Pacific. I mean it was the clear winner by a landslide. In the middle was the Granules LG and way back in the pack was the Maine's Choice. I would estimate the Maine's Choice had 10 times the ash content of the Cleanfire. Again, the difference was dramatic, much more than I thought.

OK I have seen Maine's Choice but not Granules LG nor Cleanfire Pacific in this area. So that begs the question as to Cleanfire Pacific availability and price.

I bought them via woodpellets.com.

I see that Cleanfire Pacific is softwood at $329.90/ton.

Many years ago I burned softwood pellets from western Canada and they were excellent with low ash. This year I paid $229/ton for a blend that is just fine and $100/ton less expensive than the Cleanfire Pacific.
