Looking for a licensed plumber to install propane gas log set?

I have a vented fireplace that currently has a propane gas log set that needs to be replaced.

I have found one that has an electronic ignition which is neat because it turns off the pilot light once it lights - benefit is you can close the damper when not using the log set.

Now, I need to find a qualified company or person to install it. Any suggestions?

Most all plumbers are gas fitters and can make arrangements for a electrician to do the wiring part.:)

We used Fire N Stone to install a new gas log set for us. They are a fireplace supplier and installed a real nice gas log set and had new glass doors fabricated for us. They are not licensed to do gas line installation work so they had someone else do that work for them.

As I understand it, the gas fitters license has a lot of requirements associated with it so don't assume most plumbers have that license. The folks that do my plumbing work do not and when I bought a kitchen range I had to find someone specificallly licensed to do it as well.

The plumber who did my propane hot water heater, Dennis at American Heat and Hot Water, was very good and if you are just looking for a plumber with a gas fitters license he would be a good one to call.

Just ask them if the have a manometer... if they don't find someone else!

Most plumbers should stay with installing wax rings and jonnie bolts... being "grandfathered" with a gas license doesn't make one an expert in gas service and installations!

I just replaced my log set for the same reasons. I got EnerySavers in Meredith who measured the fireplace, ordered and installed the log set. They even got the permit from the town and coordinated the inspection with the town fire marshal. Very pleased with the entire arrangement.

plumbers were not given any Grandfather clause. And most plumbers dropped offering gas service due to the classes, fees, and cost of insurance to maintain the license. We didn't, as it helps when plumbing new houses.

I beg to differ with you... many were grandfathered when the state initially required the gas license and I'm sure some still hold those licenses! Yes they are now required to take a refresher test... every 2 years. Just because they hold the license doesn't mean they actually have any experience with gas.;)
