Lakes Region Area.

Shopping for a new window air conditioner.
5,000 or 6,000 BTU.

Yes, I know weather is cooler now. This is for replacement.

Where are the best bargains presently.

The big membership stores like Sam's, BJ's, etc, etc, usually have these units for very reasonable prices. I'm just not sure they have them this time of year but its worth a check.

I bought one a couple years ago for our bunk house on the island at Sam's and I think I paid $79.00 for a 5000 btu window unit. It works great so far and it is relatively quiet.

Good Luck!

Wait another 2-3 weeks and check Lowes and HD for the clearance as they move the summer stock out and bring in Halloween and holiday stuff. Good time to buy is coming up.

Sometimes the big box stores will clear out overstock or old models through Amazon. Big Lots and Ocean State has sales.

Why on earth would you want the window boxes when the Mitsubishi units are much more efficient and within the price range of two or three portable units?

Well, because when constructed space in wall (not a window) was constructed. An opening for an air conditioner for each room.

Yes, the Mistubshi is a great product. But my up front cost were minimal during construction. And I only use one air conditioner at a time. So I don't require a mega-BTW unit. Each room can be set or ON/OFF as required.

And all of my wall air conditioners were purchased used at yard sales. About $25.00 a piece. So my up front cost was low.

I still have two units that are over 30 years old and still operating. Yes, they do use more electricity then new ones. But these are used infrequently.

So my up front cost for air conditioning was about $100.00. Not $3,000 or more.

For the replacement - I now purchase new wall/window units that are more energy efficient.

Thank you for the suggestion.

Would you use an air conditioner to cool a crawl space during the summer or run a dehumidifier 24/7?

Thanks!

5k AC $109, 6k AC $139. They had pallets of them. Window type units. We were there this morning.
