View Full Version : Heavy Smoke in Wolfboro

Broken Glass

I pulled out of Minge Cove this afternoon and headed for Rattlesnake right after the storm passed over the east end of the Lake. I observed a large plume of black smoke across the Lake on the Wolfeboro shoreline. I hope that everyone is OK over there.. The lightning was intense with the passing of this cell.

All I heard on the scanner was it was a building fire and several towns were called to man different stations.:)

According to WMUR it was a home on Diamond Cove Road. Seemed like a total loss.

Sorry to hear that it was a house fire. I had a bad feeling when I saw the smoke trail in the wind stretched to the horizon. I used to be a Deputy on a small town volunteer fire department so I know the pain that is in store for all those that lost something in the fire. Hopefully no one was hurt.

We have a shed near the water that suffered a direct hit several years ago. It was scary how quickly the fire became intense. Given it was still being built, we were so lucky it wasn't the house.

My heart goes out to those affected.

From WMUR:

WOLFEBORO, N.H. —Strong thunderstorms moved through the Granite State on Thursday, bringing a lot of lightning, with some strikes hitting buildings.

A home on Diamond Cove Way in Wolfeboro was destroyed when lightning struck a nearby tree and traveled to the house.

Officials said the residents escaped safely, and a family cat was found alive in the basement.

One firefighter was taken to the hospital where he was treated and released.

Lightning also struck the Sugar Hill post office on Thursday.

Officials said the strike shorted out the electrical system, destroyed a computer and other devices inside. In all, the strike caused about $10,000 in damage.

How could a destroyed house only have $10k in damage?

Diamond Cove Way is on Winter Harbor at the end with Jockey Cove behind it. So sorry for the owners loss but their pet cat survived which is a blessing.

My name is really kind of a long story. Broken Glass has been the name of my last three boats. The first one was a 1987 Four Winns 210 Horizon. I ordered it new at the boat show and it was the longest winter of my life waiting for it (and Spring) to come in. The reason I was a ordering a new boat, was because the old boat, a 1983 Bayliner 1950 Capri, broke in half the last day of our vacation in Alton Bay. It didn't actually break in half, but it cracked laterally, side to side, just abaft of the windshield bulkhead. It almost sank before I could get it on the trailer. Bayliner took the boat back and fixed it. After Bayliner fixed the boat and shipped it back to me I sold it. So the reason we wanted a new boat was the Broken (fiber) Glass. I own a glass company, and the source of payment was "Broken Glass" . Thus the boat name.

Told you it was a long story...

Not long enough, I messaged you with some other questions. Didnt want to ask publically to honor your privacy. We have some things in common. Answer if you see fit to. Question, have you ever heard of J.E. Berkowitz? How about Arch Aluminum and Glass? I would really like to chat with you.
Hope you dont mind me bothering you.
Glenn.
