I'm trying to find someplace to purchase fresh fish in the Gilford area. Since Sal's is no longer at Beans and Greens and FIN closed a few years ago I'm stuck with the large grocery stores.
Any suggestions would be appreciated!

....We, too, like really good, fresh fish, and it is hard to come by in the area. Shaws in Gilford is where we go for fresh fish, but like you, I would love to hear what other folks say. The Shaws fish display is always on ice, not on metal slabs like at Hannaford, and most of it is fresh, not frozen. Always have good luck with their fresh sword, haddock, cod, and salmon.
Hannaford in Meredith is not that great for fresh fish. Their fish is almost always frozen and displayed on metal slabs...not very appealing...don't know about the Hannaford in Gilford, don't shop there. To your point about Sal's, there is a Sal's fish case at Moulton Farm in Meredith...I assume it is the same guy? Although his fish is fresh, we tried it once last summer and it was overpriced and void of taste. I think he gets people impulse buying when they go to Moulton for their veggies. Whining Butcher in Meredith has had salmon and sword on ice, but I have not yet tried it.

hole in the wall type place on rt. 3 right near the bridge next to the new Winnisquam Marine addition.
Have bought Lobsters and steamers there, very good, priced reasonable for the area. Have not tried their fish yet though.

A few times each season we have a lobster fest by the water. We used to shop around for the best price and almost always ended up at Tilton Market Basket where they would steam the lobster while we waited. The Lobster Connection is usually .50 - 1.00 per lb higher than the lowest supermarket, however, the service is fantastic and they not only cook the lobsters but they give them to you in heavy duty styrofoam containers which keep the delectable crustaceans piping hot for hours. I don't mind giving the local guy the extra cash. The fish selection is always fresh and they sell fried clams, scallops, etc..
