Sorry for the photo being out-of-focus but we had a huge male bear on our front porch on Sunday, July 6 around 8:30 pm. The dog barking wildly, me making noise - nothing fazed this bear!! We live in Suissevale.
caught a glimpse of it running across the ski slope, just a split second view.

Last Friday, we saw a big guy crossing 109 about 1/2 mile north of Bald Peak at around 7:45 PM.
Ironically, on the previous Monday (7/7) we saw ANOTHER bear (much smaller) as we were heading north out of Wolfeboro -- on the eastern side of 109, just south of Wolfeboro Common. Two in one week, on the same road, in broad daylight. We were pretty lucky!

I saw one last week, a "teenager" bear, I think. Ran across New Rd in Melvin Village in front of me and my dog. I was so psyched, I have waited 2 years to see one close. I wish he would have stayed still long enough for me to get his picture.

They are beautiful creatures. We have had at least 4 in our yard. Here is a photo taken about 5 years ago of a "yearling" on our front porch on Mother's Day. If you look across the road there is a black "bump" that may be Mama, not sure. I am always scared when my husband takes the dog out after dark. He has headlamp and makes noise, but golly, meeting up at night would be quite scary.

Good grief. The huge bear that hoisted itself up our farmer's porch a couple weeks ago (see photo at beginning of this thread) was back at 7:38pm on 8/13. This time he just walked up the front steps. We have no bird feeders up, but bears remember good (and bad) experiences, and I guess the scent of bird seed is still around. It's rather unsettling to realize that you can be outside grilling dinner and BAM... an uninvited guest. We need to keep that air horn a little closer at hand.
