View Full Version : motion lights
I've got a motion sensor light over the garage that's been coming on during daylight for awhile now when you walk by it. When I google how to stop this all I can find is a comment to "reset it to activate at night." How do you do that I do not see any setting on it for this. There is a sensitivity setting (doesn't fix the problem) and a setting for how long it stays on. Anyone else run into this? Is the fix to buy a new one??

Our motion detector spotlight fixture did the same thing, and what I found was that there was a build up of a combination of dust and dead little bugs that seemed to be causing the light sensor to think it was dark out. I cleaned out the sensor and all was good for a few more years.
Hmmm thanks I'll try cleaning it again, fool around with the sensitivity (again) then if needed replace...Thanks...

Try shutting it off for 3-5 seconds, then turn it back on. It usually resets.

If its coming on during the day the sensitivity has nothing to do with it. Either the light sensor is bad or as Up posted, the light is being obstructed. Try his suggestion first. If need be you can buy a separate light sensor and rewire if its cheaper than a whole new fixture.

I have had the light sensor go bad. I bought my light at Home Depot 3 years ago. When I went to buy a new sensor after only 1 year they had lots of them so I would guess failure of the sensor is expected. Also the 30 second power off will work in most cases to reset the unit.
I'll check out the sensor route. Actually I turn the light off all the time now when I'm in the driveway during the day and don't want it to stay on, resetting it won't work in this case.
