Just a reminder...the National Geographic channel is starting a new series "Ice Holes" tonight at 10pm. Looks like most of it was filmed on Meredith Bay during the Meredith Rotary Fishing Derby.

Is it about ice fishing or the few people that left the place a wreck when they removed their bobhouses?

It's just another "reality" TV show that isn't real and completely scripted. It never ceases to amaze me how many people believe this reality TV crap!

Not what I expected. Very dissapointed. I was expecting more of a documentry and the whole ice fishing experience on the lake, instead we got three or four rejects that got turned down for the Wolfman job at Clarkes Trained Bears. Reruns of Big Brother episodes on MTV were more exciting. I watched 10 minutes and flipped the channel

Such an embarrassment to the "National Geographic" brand. I thought I heard one of the idiots say the three things he hates are "death, taxes, and his girlfriend"??

Good grief. NatGeo has done some terrific shows, including the current "Life Below Zero" ... I know some materials are scripted, but Ice Holes was inane, insulting, really horrid. I thought it was going to be interesting, but boy, was I wrong. The characters are IDIOTS, and that is being kind. Gives a bad name to all who ice fish. Everyone should put their comments out to the NatGeo website or Facebook page.

The fact that it's all staged was clearly evident in the phony scene where the eagle "steals" the guy's prize-winning perch. I've seen elementary school kids do better film editing on an iPhone.
Quickly deleted it off my DVR.

does anyone remember the guy that went through the ice at the meredith ramp? pretty sure it was a silver/gray can am commander like that one guy from ny was tooling around on. someone posted a pic of it when i happened but i couldn't find it.
also, that guy with the bushy beard.. i think i've seen him before. he got popped by f&g for having about 20 traps out fishing by himself. don't know if it's the same guy, but they look a lot alike.

Some "reality" shows have a couple seasons before they are obviously scripted with poor acting. The show "Southie Rules" was a good example of throwing a show at the wall and seeing if it sticks. Ice holes is a miss for sure.

To think of what they could have done with the idea of that show yet they made pretty much a mockery out of the entire area, ice fishing in general and worst yet.... show that dork from "NY" driving like a lunatic on the ice, as if that is "normal"? Very sad indeed as so much could have been done to show all the cool things going on in the winter time around the lake. I just hope it doesn't encourage or attract that kind of crowd in the future. I mean where did they find these clowns in the first place? :(
Very disappointed to say the least.

Forgive me for going off topic, but that reminds me of a joke I heard...
A blonde wanted to go ice fishing, so after getting all of the right tools, she headed toward the nearest frozen lake. After getting comfy on her stool she started to cut a circular hole in the ice. Then from the heavens a voice boomed, ''THERE ARE NO FISH UNDER THE ICE.'' Startled, the blonde moved further down the ice, poured a thermos of hot chocolate and started to cut yet another hole in the ice. The voice boomed, ''THERE ARE NO FISH UNDER THE ICE.'' This time quite scared, the blonde moved to the far end of the ice. Then she started another hole and once again the voice said, ''THERE ARE NO FISH UNDER THE ICE.'' The very scared blonde raised her head and said, ''Is that you, Lord?'' The voice answered, ''NO. IT IS THE MANAGER OF THE ICE RINK.''
