Snowmobile question

Just out of curiosity, the snowmobiles we're out the ice in Mboro bay up by Suissevale. I hear still around a 12in thick in a lot spots. Plenty thick however, it has pulled away from shore.. Just curious, I saw tracks where they skimed large areas of open water near shore.. Do they have floating mechanism on them?? I've never been on one before. I never thought so but, I saw the tracks one that started on the open ice, went in between the docks in Suissevale and ended up in the parking lot. A quick calculation using a map that's about 300ft of open water to skim over!! I knew you could skim water but, I never thought that much water!!! Thanks, they are braver than I:coolsm:

YouTube snowmobile water crossing. Very doable, and very illegal in NH unless in a sanctioned event. They are putting not only themselves but others in risk.

I crossed about 100 feet of open water, at night, by accident,on Rangeley lake a few years ago. I skipped right across before I even knew what happened.

Yup.....needed a baby wipe when I got back to camp.

This is one of the reasons it was outlawed in NH. During the day, people would be skimming the open water. Then, at night, when other snowmobilers are headed home they mistakenly follow the track from the daytime skimmers into open water, panic, let off the throttle and go in.

THEN they often drown because they cannot haul themselves out of the water (no grip on the ice). I recommend ice picks for all that go on water.

Hey Vita, where do you carry these when riding for us "newbies".

They usually are on a cord that I string through the arms of my jacket and keep inside the sleves of my jacket my kids have strap on the cuffs of their jackets or to of the gloves and they stick them under those to secure them so they are quickly available.
