We're making plans to visit the area this May. We decided it would be better to visit before my knee surgery rather than after. This way I won't be hobbling around on crutches... I'll just be hobbling!! :emb:

I'm looking online for Motels in the area. We'll be staying with his sister in Auburn for a while, but I want to spend a couple nights in the area. I've got my list of houses we (I) want to look at. It feels good to finally be making plans and searching airlines, motels, and car rentals instead of just thinking about it. I can't wait to get there!!! :D

You may need to do a little weeding. Some like the Christmas Island Resort are no longer 'habitable'.

If you are looking on the west side of the lake, I highly recommend the Belknap Point Motel. Very clean and reasonable (under $80 per night) with a beautiful view of the lake and mountains. If you are looking on the east side of the lake try the Lake Motel in Wolfeboro. The new 2 story motel is a bargain at $99 per night off season with a kitchenette in the room. The Belknap Pt. is just a room with bed and bath, but no kitchen or even a coffee maker, but there are many places for meals nearby.

I'll second Vitabene's recommendation as I have stayed there on several occasions. They put out an excellent continental breakfast too.:D

Agree with Center Harbor Inn...location is great. We had guests stay there a few years ago and said it was basic and clean and folks were nice. Right on the water.

You can also look on airbnb, homeaway, etc. for rentals if you would prefer to stay somewhere with a kitchen. During the off-season our condo in Laconia on airbnb is cheaper than some of the local hotels. We don't have a minimum stay requirement but others may require at least a few nights or a week for a rental.

I've had friends stay at Misty Harbor. Super reasonable, clean and if you ask for a lake view you will get it. There are many houses for rent too, I'd check out VRBO.com if you want a more personal vacation.

Good luck and enjoy!

**sigh** Even the best laid plans can get derailed! It's looking like our trip will have to be postponed as no one is interested in buying our trailer. The money from the trailer was going to buy our tickets there. Oh well, I suppose we'll get there when we get there, just not on the timeline I was hoping for! :(

I reread the thread when it came to the top and wanted to recommend the Fireside Inn in Gilford.

My wife and I spent three nights there just before ice-out (too cold to turn the water on at camp) and we were very pleased. I don't know what the "on-season" rates are, but we paid less than $80 / night.

It is well-maintained, clean, comfortable, with a friendly staff. Coffee, refrigerator, microwave & WiFi in the room. There is a nightly "social hour" in the very pleasant lobby with snacks and beverages (didn't try this, but could smell the popcorn). They also have exercise facilities and both indoor and outdoor pools.

The complimentary full breakfast was surprisingly good and included scrambled eggs, link sausage, cereal, Belgian waffles, pancakes (push a button, wait 1 minute, hold your plate under the slot --perfectly done), and pastries.

And, of course, they are across the road from Sawyers, Patrick's, and a NH state liquor store.

Hope you're able to come east soon; It's getting closer to winter every day...

+1 more for Belknap Point...I can't imagine any place having a better view and it always gets good reviews...
