Are there any fabric stores in the area besides Joann's? I know there are a couple of quilt shops, but I'm looking for a larger selection of material then I've seen in the Lakes Region. I don't mind driving if it's worth the trip. Thank you!!

Whenever we visit the lake, my wife spends hours visiting Keepsake Quilting in Center Harbor. She says they have a much better supply of fabric then JoAnn's and I know the parking lot well...

A bit of a drive, but Franks Bargain Center in Claremont has a huge selection - quilting fabrics, fleece, upholstery fabric, foam pieces, etc. I always find stuff I didn't even know I needed! I love to wander there.

There aren't any fabric stores in this area or any part of New England. They have all gone out of business. People just aren't making their own clothes anymore.

There are plenty of quilting stores, but that's it.

Franks Bargain Center on the Charlestown Rd in Claremont, NH doesn't have that good of a selection of fabric. As the store name states: "Bargain Center".

We used to go to Connecticut to get fabric and that place went out of business a couple of years ago.

They're located in the same plaza as Barons on the DW. Highway in Belmont http://www.vacmanandbobbin.com/

If you are looking for a large selection of home decor fabrics, I highly suggest Rags and Riches in Williston , VT. www.ragsandrichesfabric.com
It would be about a 3 hour drive , give or take, from the Lakes Region.
I have been a past shopper at Calico Corners, and I think Rags and Riches has a wider variety to choose from.
Make a day of it! good luck!:)

The last time I was in Martins House of Fabrics was @3-4 years ago and they had just moved (I think) and had more quilting material then anything else. However looking at the website that you linked it appears that they have stocked up with a lot of fabric. Thanks for posting that info.

If anyone is ever in Maryland then you might want to go to G Street Fabrics. It is a huge store and you can also order online at this address:

Wow - Thanks everyone for so many great suggestions!! I'm going to have a ball checking them all out. A few people have also mentioned The Handkerchief Factory in Exeter - any input of that one? Thanks again for all your help!

Forgot about that one...yes, that has a huge selection, it's mostly home dec fabric though, depends on what you are looking for. They have 1st quality upholstery and drapery fabric, and they have a very large selection of remnants in the attic space that you can easily get lost in.

Isn't it sad how these businesses used to be around all over and now they are scarce. My mom was a big sewer and I remember one local place we'd go to (which is now condos) and I would spend what felt like hours playing around the racks of fabric.

If you ever did take the trip to Sewfisticated in Framingham (I've been there once it's not bad) I would also check out this place, It's about 10 minutes or less away. There used to be a store chain in Mass called Fabric Place but they went out of business but the owners have opened this store. A little cleaner than sewfisticated and I'd say more selection. Also have yarn. Ironically the building where sewfisticated is now used to be a fabric place.

Yes, it's sad that the fabric stores are no longer around. I too remember going along with my mom as she shopped. Now most people just buy pre-made or order their fabric on line. I need to look at the fabric, hold it and envision what it'll look like in my home. Thanks to everyone for your help. I'll definitely be checking out your suggestions. :-)

If it's home decorating fabric for which you're looking, you should check out this place: http://www.georgestextile.com/

There was a huge fabric store at the beginning of Pleasant St back in the days. I remember they do furniture reupholstering and even do clothing repairs as well as make clothing. My Mom had them make drapes.
