Just checking whether or not the storm rolling up from the south has hit the area and if it has, hopefully not too severely! Unfortunately, I'm stuck over here in the UK where we are being battered by horrific wind, rain and floods...what is happening???

...what is happening???

Global warming ?? I saw one program where they were trying to explain why its getting colder when they claim its warmer. Their explanation was that (the global warming) heat rises and goes into space, and is replaced by the cold. So its cold because it was hot. LOL I needed a laugh this morning.

My tree hugging, granola crunching kids say all the extremes in weather are "global climate change" I don't know......I do know that south of the equator they had the hottest summer on record. Australia had 117 degrees during the tennis match and somewhere in South America they recorded the hottest temp ever......just sayin.....

Storm? Tempest? What storm, it's just a typical New England snow.

The news loves to make things look bigger than life.

When I was a kid, we had snow falls that allowed me to crawl over the top of a 5 foot stockade fence when the snow had crusted over.

It's a typical storm for New England, but not for the southern states.

Back to the original question, it just started snowing in earnest within the last 15 minutes. It's still very light and not accumulating yet. Also, no wind to speak of, though it sounds like that is going to change soon.

What I'm thinking is the southern states will eventually have the climate of the New England states and we in NE will be able to enjoy retirement in the new "sunshine" state complete with beautiful mountains and lake views!:)

So my thinking isn't far off....it will be interesting to think 60 degrees is "cold".:D
For now, shovels at the ready!

Geophysicists think the Earth's magnetic poles could soon switch ends....
On a planet that's 4.6 billion yrs old a few thousand years is "soon". The earth does this magnetic pole "flip" every half million years or so and some geophysicists argue that flip is "close".
The good news is that any flip in magnetic poles should occur long after we are gone and fossil records show that these past flips don't cause species to die out.

Chances are something else will cause humans to go the way of 99% of the other species that have been here. Extinct.:)

At 3 am we had about 2 inches of snow here in northern NJ. Around 7 it started to snow at the rate of 2 inches per hour. It's still going strong and with the winds, the snow is coming down sideways. We are supposed to get about 1 foot by mid-afternoon from this Nor'Easter, and as the temps go up it's supposed to change to a few hours of freezing rain. Looks like this storm is making its way up the I-95 corridor toward New England. After midnight we are supposed to get an additional 3 or 4 inches of snow as the temperatures go down again. Terrific! So far we've had a little over 50 inches of snow this winter which is way above the average around here of 17". The TV news just mentioned another "Clipper" coming thru on Saturday afternoon with another 2 or 3 inches of snow. At least they are showing temps of 46 - 50 by Monday & Tuesday. We already had a foot of snow on the ground from last week's storms, so I don't know where I'm going to put this new foot of snow. Thank goodness for the snowblower. Haven't seen a plow yet here in Clifton. Typical!

I admit it. I caused the storm. I'll gladly turn it off if you'll send a wire transfer to my offshore account. ;)

The snow is now starting to pile up here in New Durham, and we just ran out of milk!

When the sled dogs finally get through and they find our bodies, let them know how it happened. We ran out of milk during a snow storm.

Will someone please take a picture of my boat in the snow storm, it's sitting in Gilford. I need to offset the stories from friends in Atlanta that think they have it tough.

By the way, to the OP, the snow is starting to periodically come down sideways here in Derry.

sideways.....but are they BIG flakes or LITTLE flakes? I remember hearing BIG flakes little storm, Little flakes BIG storm. We've changed from snow to rain to snow again and have a huge slush pond at the edge of the driveway. I think I see basement flooding in our near future. :(

Define 'big'?

Right now they are medium to small, not large, slow, fluffly, slowly coming down snow. I'd take a picture, but to anyone that is in NH, it just would look like snow!

Actually, the snow is moving too fast for my cell phone to get a picture of it.

It must be dry snow too, because when the wind slows and stops for a moment, the flakes don't look like they are very heavy, some are floating around a bit.

I heard it was going to be windy. we haven't seen high winds yet. we are along the coast in southern Ma. it is raining now and 33 degrees. I remember the blizzard of 78. definitely Little flakes fell as I drove into work that day and was stuck at work for 4 days!!!! Big flakes are pretty. Little flakes scary.

Big flakes almost aways signal the tail end of a storm. Its snowing very intense medium flakes here in Manchester at about 1 1/2 inches an hour.Yahoo.

It's been snowing here about 6 hours, and there's already almost 4 inches on my hot top cover (which was clean before the storm started).

It's about 30 degrees here.

We started getting the big flakes fast and furious here in Beverly about 1pm. 2 to 3" real fast and now has turned to sleet. Just took me about 40 minutes to go three miles getting home. Went under RT 128. North bound is closed according to WBZ and I could see south bound at a complete standstill. Must be "The Day After Tomorrow". Better get the milk and bread and head for the bunkers!

I am so glad someone finally has taken the blame off of me! My friends and family keep trying to blame me for this weird winter were I lived in AK for 10 years and my hubby for 35 years. I told them that living in NJ for 2 winters prior makes it not my fault...go figure my first winter living back in home state is a weird one LOL. So thanks for taking the blame...I'll send them in your direction to complain :-)

Yesterday we got 11+ inches of white fluffy stuff. Never changed over to any ice or rain. All snow here. We got a couple more inches on the back side overnight, it's snowing heavily in Laconia but that should be done very soon. When all is said and done we will have about a foot of fresh snow.
Saturday brings another few inches!

Anyone else tired of winter this year? Perhaps that's why I'm on the forum so much lately, maybe it will help to bring spring quicker (or in my mind at least).

I just got back in from snowblowing and shoveling. We didn't get as much as I thought we did, perhaps 4 inches, but it was VERY heavy and wet, and ice crusted.

Even my snowblower was complaining!

You think its rough there , In Tierra Verdi we just got 6 inches of sunshine in an hour and the beaches are wall to wall !!!

If those beaches are too crowded for you...our beaches are practically deserted. You just need to shovel out a parking spot and the beach is yours (better bring your wet suit):D

If it makes you feel any better the blizzard that's hitting New England Saturday night should only graze the lake's region with about 6".

Watch out minni...the storm has it's eye on the south shore of Mass (6-12")

It's a bright, beautiful, sunny, blue sky day! Looks like the Cape and Maine got slammed. We got less than 6". It's 22 degrees but with the bright blue sky it feels like Spring is just around the corner! Wonder if we'll see any snowdrops or crocus after all this accumulated snow melts (wishful thinking). Hope it's cold (not too) and lots of blue sky in Alton for the festival! :) and for the Laconia dog sled race!

On Black Cat Island we got 8.4 inches of snow between the 13th and 14th, and then another inch of snow last night. So far no where near the amount of snow we had on the ground by March 1, 2008. We had 42 inches on the ground on that day. We' have about half that, now.
