We came up to Alton for the weekend and were surprised at the snow covered, icy roads. We took the Exit 20 ramp off Route 93 last night and it was a sheet of ice. We left this morning and saw someone skidded off that same ramp and the car was in the ditch. The Route 3 bypass, and Route 11 were pretty scary too. It must have been a tough storm for the plowers and the frigid cold didn't help.

I just came in from the Manchester Airport and the roads were great except on some of the small route roads where the snow/ice build up was still on the center lines and close to the edges. Just took the time and the trip was a pleasant one.:)

Conventional and traditional de-icing methods just don't work in the extreme cold. Road salt is relatively ineffective under 17 degrees. Many communities are using either Calcium Chloride or Magnesium Chloride to reduce the melting point but when the temps are zero and below, that effort is wasted too.
You should see a dramatic improvement in road conditions today, rain tonight and tomorrow, and a lock up freeze tomorrow night.

Did you not see all the signs along 93 that said..."CAUTION RAMPS MAY BE ICY"

Thanks everyone for sharing your thoughts. Yes, we saw the icy ramp signs and were careful on them...fortunately we were not the ones who slid off the ramp.
