I was walking along the channel that goes into Back Bay Sunday AM and noticed a large school of 3" to 4" fish hugging the northwest bank of the channel, just south of the bridge. I then noticed quite a few bass in the 2-4 lb range lurking below the school. Every once in awhile one would dart in and presumably catch a meal. That was pretty neat to see, but then a loon showed up and was having a field day working through the school. The water was crystal clear and the spectacle was really impressive. Anyone else see this?
I've never seen a loon get a fish but have seen them swim by my dock underwater many times, they are incredible to watch.
A few years back about this time of year, we were in Meredith at the mills. We stopped to watch the waterfall as the water was coming down pretty good and we saw something jump. And then again. There were 2-3 salmon trying to make their way to the fall (not sure what they were gonna do when they got there) but it was really cool to watch. Not sure if it happens every year, does anyone know?

My wife and I were in Wolfeboro on Saturday and saw 2 loons feasting just off the docks. I'm always amazed at how quickly they can move underwater. Thankfully I had my long lens with me. Below is my best shot.

That looks like the one I saw on Sunday.
We haven't heard nor seen a loon on our lake (Sunset Lake Alton) in the past week or 2. It is about this time they leave for the winter and we have others stop in for the night or night and day on their way back to the ocean.:)
