Went to Walters Basin Saturday evening for dinner. First let me say I tried to get reservations at several other restaurants that had no availability before I was able to easily get a reservation at Walters Basin. After dining there now I know why they had availability. Walters Basin needs a new chef. The food was horrible. Two of my party ordered sirloin steaks medium rare. The steaks arrived at our table over cooked beyond well done. So we told the waitress and she took them back and told us they would cook 2 new steaks for us. After half of our party was done with their dinner the 2 new steaks arrived almost raw. The outside was grey and the inside was purple raw. It is obvious their steaks are cooked frozen. We then complained about the raw steaks and the management made no attempt to remedy the situations. Both of us that ordered the steaks did not eat our raw steaks. The management did absolutely nothing for us. We were still charged full price for our meals. A restaurant of any quality would have taken the steaks back and comped us the charge for them. So sad because Walters Basin USED TO BE a very good restaurant. I will not return or recommend the restaurant to anyone.

Didn't someone mention a minimum number of posts before you could add a thread to the restaurant reviews? Maybe a 2 week wait before it actually gets posted.

Just my 2 cents

Another 1st post and it's negative. Anyone want to put a first post that is positive?

Shouldn't the join date sway things a little also? If it was a new account that's one thing, but 2 years old?

this can't post negative reports on a restaurant thing is getting real old!
first , the expectation when you go out to eat is that everything is going to be done properly , good service , fair price . No need to post when those expectations are met , That's expected !
When expectations are not met that's when its appropriate to do a post !
The lakes region has far to many restaurants that don't hit the acceptable level .
The seasonal excuse or the " we have gone there for 30 years " crap are no reason to give poor quality a pass
stop trying to scare off new posters

Hi everyone,
I don't post much, however I enjoy the forum interaction, it's interesting and usually filled with lot's of useful and/or entertaining information, especially for a fairly new person to the lakes legion. We like to dine out on a regular basis and pay particular attention to the discussions on that topic, but in my opinion there are too many negatives vs the positives. We have been to Walters several times this year, had some very good experiences and some so so. But I think that's what you have to expect at many places up here when you have such a significant seasonal change in business. I think we should all just try to keep it all in perspective and enjoy the time out. Also, if you sit in the lounge at Walters you will really enjoy the action at the gas dock on the channel. There's no gas on Big Squam so there's lot's of fun jockeying around in the current to get positioned at Squam Boat Livery. It's worth the price of admission.
