Might be an urban myth.
But as I recall - brown eggs were locally grown.
White eggs were brought in from outside New England.
Noticed at local grocery store mostly brown eggs. But one container of white eggs.

Any way all hens can lay both brown and white eggs.

The color of the egg depends on the breed of the chicken.

So much for "Brown eggs are local eggs and local eggs are fresh?"

Why are they more costly than white eggs?

When my neighbor goes on vacation I get eggs that are warm before I cook them!
Tip for fresh eggs: Let them sit in the fridge for a few days before using them for egg salad.

Someones got to pay for the brown coloring. :D

My experience also; however, I've never had this experience with picking up a white egg!

I have never seen eggs lying flat in a container. They are always with small or large size down. And always check to make sure none of them stick, as sometimes they are cracked and will stick to the carton. Carton should be paper not stryraform.

Neighbor has chickens and they gave us some fresh eggs not to long ago. They were green, white and brown. Biggest yolks I ever saw! And very yummy.
