Spent the week on the banks of Blackey Cove. Morning after the center harbor fire works all the debri that washed up was being surveyed by a passing brown mink. Is this common around the lake?

here's a link to my story about a mink encounter last year: http://www.winnipesaukee.com/forums/showthread.php?t=14295

I'm glad you have seen the same kind of behavior. I saw one hiking in snow last year, all white. Perhaps they are making a come back.

One crossed the road in front of me this very morning down by 20 mile bay. was headed toward the marsh/swamp section opposite the lake. At first I thought it was just a dark squirrel. But getting closer to it saw it was a mink. very small head and long and sleek. Not an otter.

Mink are common around the lake. The all white critter may have been an ermine if it had a black tip on the tail. Ermin are weasels in their winter dress.
We saw one running around our yard (shoreline) yesterday. We see them a lot.
