The Manitou

After last weeks publicity stunt by a marina in Lakeport, I have been getting a ton of questions about my baby!

The Manitou is a 51 foot Bluewater Coastal Cruiser. She was born in 1988 and came right to Winnipesaukee! She is berthed at Fay's where we use her as a summer home.

Her specifications are:
LOA - 51'0"
LWL - 49'5"
Beam - 14'0"
Draft - 1'11"
Clearance - 11'7"
Weight - 26000 pounds
Water - 130 gallons
Fuel - 320 gallons
Power - twin Crusader 350

Despite her size, she handles very well. Her draft and big hips do make things "interesting" when moving in and out the dogleg into the covered slips.

I have skippered The Manitou, when the original owner had her. I was amazed at how shallow a draft she has, but Blue Water Coastal Cruisers were built for river running and near coastal. So it makes sense. Can be a rocky ride on a busy day. Hope you are taking good care of her.

She is back to great shape...there were. Few years of neglect when I took her on. Only project left is getting the generator repaired. She is at Fay's if you want to come reminisce!

I live across from Beaver Island and watched the boat for many years when John Beaver was a alive and a co owner. It used to be berthed near Y landing at Oliver Lodge where it was rented out for special occasions. It always amazed me that it could make it through the narrow Beaver Island Channel that was hardly wide enough for smaller draft boats.

I am often surprised that I am able to get her out of Fay's too! She is nimble for a big boat!

Thanks! She is a work in progress. Like any other boat, there is always something to do, but at least now it is just puttering!

We did have the name removed from the stern so we could dress her up. Now her name is on the life ring at the stern

I have liked that boat for years!

Curious, though about the draft. You list the draft at less than two feet and that it is powered by twin Crusaders. How do you accomplish such a shallow draft? Do you have jet drives? Probably unlikely, so what kind of drives do you have?

Or maybe the conventional drives are mounted higher than usual? V-drives?
